in Jamui district.Mahabir has
also been reffered
as Vashali in Sutrakritang 13 a
historical book
of Jain
and Lichawis. He is also
reffered to as Videhkumar, Videhdut and Videh at diff erent

Abhisek Puskarni
or Mangal Puskarni- Birth place
of LordMahabir is
also callrd Vaskund.
A beautiful pond is
ther at few
distance from this. This
pond is called
Abhishek puskarni
or Mangal
puskarniOnly likshwis were
allowed to take
bath in it on religious
occasions. It
was traditional for
Likshwi kings to be purified
by taking ceremonial
bath in the
water of puskarni to
obtain fullfledged kingship. Now
a days start
of Vaisali mahotsaw is done by purifying the
campus ground with
the water of
Puskarni water.THE LENGTH OF
PUSKARNI IS 14000’

Jain Temple-A jain
temple is there
near the birth
place of lord Mahabir.It has
a big statue
Of lord
Mahabir in it..The
statue was found
in 1945 during
archaeological excavation.
Villagers worship this
statue with sweets.
ASHOK PILLAR-A
stone pillar of
brownish sand stoneof
about 14 metres
height with lion
on top with northerly
mouth was also
found during the
excavation It is said
that it was
built by emperor
Ashok in 200 BC
It
is also called
Bhim ki lat
or Ashok ki
lat. Some inscription in Sankh
script is there
on it.Many small
stups were found
during the excavation Devotees used
to worship on
these stups with
some demans from
the lord.
So they
are called Manauti
stups, Besides it beads
of precious stones
were also found.
MARKATDAH-Close by
to Ashok pillar there
is a small
pond in the
south side.It is
called Ram Kund It is
said that there
was a stup
(Budha’s stoppage place)
built in
memory of monky giving
hony to lord Budha. It is
120’ long and 55’wide.. Two
earthen hillocks(tillahas)
near the
pillars are called “Kutagarsala”
DHATU ASTUP-/ASTHIKALAS ASTUP-Excavations were
done near Bakoamdas,lateron in Basant village. An
earthen mound of
210’height and 15’ diameter was
found here. This was
built by Likshwi kings
during their rule.It
was built on
the burnt remnants
of lord Budha.
So it
is called Relick astup
or Asthikalasstup. According to
historians it was
built during Maurya period .Polished earthen
jars and a Jar containing
remains of bones
and ashes of
lord Budha was
also found here. It
is learnt from
Dudhinikay Mahaparinirsthan Sutra
that lord Budha went in Mahaparinirwan or died
in Kushinagar in kingdom
of Malhs His funeral was done
with full state
regards. After that ashes and
remnanants of body
was divided int eight
parts. One part was
bobtained by Likshwis
of Vaishali. Rest seven
parts were obtained
by Ajatsatru of
Magadh,Sakyas of Kapilvastu,Bullis of
Alikapa,Kolias of Ramgram ,A Brahman
mal of Pawa
of bheth island It
is a matter
of pride for
Likshwis of Vaishali
that they preserved
the remnants of
bones and ashes
of lord Budha
in Oyster stone
box(seep stone manjusa), Which was
found in safe
and good condition
on excavation after so
long period.
A small
sankh, mollusk or conch, two
beads of glass,,a
golden leaf , a damaged
coin of copper
were also found, ,Which
were also kept
along with “asthi kalas”.The original 15’diameter astup
was modified to
8.7 M brick
stone during periods
of Mauryas,Sung and
Kusans. It is also
called Dhatu astup.
VISHWA SHANTI ASTUP- It was made in
1996.It was opened
to the public on
23rd Oct 1996 by president
Shankar Dayal Sharma and
Japanese Bodhsangh Nippojan
Moyohi.It is 180’ high
and of 120’
in circumference Time period
of construction was
13 years
FORT OF RAJA VISHAL-It
was found in
village Basarh . The spread
over of the
area is 1sq
mile..Excavation in 1902
and 1960 ave
rvealed> 1000 coins of
Gupta period earthen
statues and other
different articles.
