ABOUT THE  SITE-The site is a large pond in Punaura village 2kmNWof Sitamarhi town.Mythology isthat goddess Sita appeared with her eight  other sister  friends In Treta yug  Ravana took  bloods of saints and munis as tax ,collected it in a jar and pressed it inside theearthat thisplace ofJanakpur.That’s whythe area suffered severe drought.Janak,the king of that place being inspired bydream and  astrological solution had to plough the earth himself by “Hal” (tilling and ploughing machine) It  was  started  from  a  place now called Haleshwarnath.When the  machine  came     near  Janki    janmkund in  it, it collided    with the  jar  containng bloods of rishis.As such Sita with her   other   eight  incarnation Navdurga  appeared  at  the  place. King Janak was then blessed  with the  deity in  form  of a  female child Sita who ultimately became cause of destruction of all demons  including Ravan.
The placewasdiscovered bySaintAsharamjimaharaj in 16th century who got  it discovered by reading and studying its description  in hindu scriptures.Local say goes that people used to get their wishes fulfilled by bathing and worshipping in the kundThis is also  called     
Urwija” kund.Those who desired utensils ,got it,Those whodesired
Saffron clothes hey got it.Those who desired chese  and ghee, took
the water  of  the kund in some container worshiped it  and found
thedesired material.It is also said that skin deseases are also cured
by bathing in this  kund.
