ABOUT THE  SITE-Rohtash fort is situated on the Adhaura plateau of Kaimur range of hills at height of about1500’.The peripheral boundary of the fort is 8km in E-Wand7km in N-S
It is spread over in an area of 40 sqrkm.
Mythological-According to local say the fort was built by Rohtas son of King Harishchandra,who was sold to Dom community in Banaras ,who latter  adopted their cast.With passage of time it was known by his name. While going up towards the fort ,there is a temple of Rohtas in the foot hill slope. Local tribals likeKherwar oraon chero say that  the fort is the property of their ancestors.  
Historical-Inscriptions on stone reads that one rular of Kherwal dynasty Pratap Dhawal made road up to Rohtas fort in the year 1169 and another slab inscription of 1223 depicts names ancestors
Of Pratap Dhawal. Main historical period of this fort starts from the perod of SherShahSuri of Sasaram After 15th century it went into  the hands of Akbar.Descriptions of recent history shows that
ManSingh one of the chiefs of his army used the Rohtas fort as
his head quarter.

Time.Attractive frescos weremade in the plasterof walls. Main entr
-y gate has two security towers and elephant statue of 1metre height.It is called Hathia pole.Corridors have octagonal pillars.Re
