ABOUT THE
SITE—It is a
temple of goddess
Durga situated on
the
Eastern foothill
slopes of Brahmjoni
hill of Gaya, further east of Akshaya
But (the immortal
tree).One has to
rise about 125
steps to reach
the temple or to take
a car drive
to a short
meandering road.The isolated
Hillock is
called BhasmkutParwat
Pauranik-According to
mythological and Pauranik
story lord Shiva
took the burnt body of
Sati from the
ygya hawan kund
of Yaksh on
his shoulder and
went on dancing in he sky in mood to destroy the
universe
to remove
illusion from the
mind of Shiv
lord Vishnu cut
the parts
of the
body of Sati
by Sudarsan charka.These
parts felldown at different
places.As such those
places and parts
of the earth were
embossed with
powers of Sati. Or
became “Shakti piths” for
Hindus.

in Devi bhagawat . Besides it 26 sub
shaktipiths have also
been described in
Kalika puran.But in
general say 51
shaktipiths
are recognized.Out of

Kalika puran two

of the
body of Sati ,the
veginal region,felldown in
Kamakhya hills in Assam
and second the breast portion felldown in Bhasmkut hill
in Gaya ,

the two boulders
where mother Mangala
gauri keeps her
daily presence.
The Temple—It
is in two
parts in form
of Canopy(mandap). The entry
door to the
temple opens in
eastern side.Only one
door is there
which
is very
constricted A lamp is
always lit in the
sancto sanctum “garve grih” of
the temple. A big idol
of Ganesh is
there in the
temple. A Molshree tree
is there in
the campus which
is loved by
goddess
Mangla gauri. A temple of
lord Shiv is
also there ,on
whose gate is
there to
be worshipped by
the devotees. Besides it
there are statues
of Hanuman,
Astbhuji Durga Smallganesh
and Kali in
the premises.
A Bhimpith
bedi is there
where Bhim gave
pind dan to his
dead ancestors by
bowing over his knee . The
load pressure of
his body
weight has
given two ditch marks over
the rock there
which can be
seen by the
visitors. There is a
defined pradakshina (round movement)
path(route) to
give rounds by the devotees.

to day puja Tuseday
is the worship
day for
Mangala gauri.Aswin

the place.
