AABOUT THE
SITE –The site is
of religious
,archaeological,and pre historical importance.According to
religious and pauranic literatures once
Deoraj Indra
killed one demon Brijasur..He was
son of a Brahman. So Indra became
infected by the
sin of brahmhatya.So
he got down
to take bath in
the Ganges at this place which
was flowing here
at that time.The
Ganges washed the
karush or the mal,the
dirt, and set IIndra
free from
the sin.So this
place was later changed to Masarh or Karisath
with lapses
of time.
Huensang
came to this place
in seventinth century in his
tour.He has mentioned
as Mahasolo or
Masal.
It is
also expressed askingdom
of demon king BanasurBishwamitra got
Ram and
Lakshman to destroy demons
like Tadka and Banasur
at this
place.Remnants located
are as follows----

remnant of earthen
mound which was excavated and located by
Mr Buchanan
in 1871-72(report in 1918-19) It was
spread over in an
Area of
50x50 sqr yards It
is in west
of Masarh.In 1971-73 the
area was disturbed
by railways for
repair and construction Remnant portion
of the
mound is known as
Banasur ka Ghar Similarly a
pond south
of the
mound is known
as Usha ka
talab2A big statue
of lord VISHNU-A
very big statue
of lord Vishnu
made of sand
stone was found
here during the
excavation which is
now placed in
the gallery
of
Patna museum3VISHNU TEMPLE-This
is old temple of
lord Vishnu in the
village premises showing
presence of Hindu

Jain temple in

shows prevalence of
